In June 2011, Tenke Fungurume Mining, in partnership with Group One, an NGO, organized a training session for local contractors who are currently, or are interested in, doing business with TFM. Nine contractors received training on capacity building and business management at the Community Development Center in Fungurume. The four-day session focused on generating and managing income, techniques for negotiation, supply and demand, running a business in a complex market and effective use of management tools.

Justin Shekilou, of Shekilou Enterprise, supplies cement blocks to TFM.  He reported that before the training, he did not keep records of his business expenses.  Since his participation in the training, he records all of his cash flow entries as they occur.  This tool has helped him monitor his expenses and he believes further training and coaching will help him successfully run his business.
