More than 600 Freeport-McMoRan employees around the world volunteered over 2,600 hours during Global Volunteer Month in April. The theme of global volunteer month was community development, in which Freeport-McMoRan operations organized and implemented service projects focused on improving the quality of life in local communities. Employee volunteer efforts included:
- Employees participated in renovation projects at a local kindergarten that serves at-risk youth in Chile, while in Peru employees helped to renovate a senior center and organized a game night, dance and party for residents.
- In Arizona, employees hosted a “Safety in Mining” event to teach the importance of safety at home and in the workplace. Approximately 1,125 employees, family members and community members attended.
- Freeport-McMoRan employees in Colorado partnered on a project to help high school students from a Denver-area school learn about careers in mining. Students attended a tour of the Henderson mine and met with employees to discuss opportunities in the mining sector.
- PT Freeport Indonesia employees partnered with two organizations on efforts to improve educational facilities for disadvantaged children and women.
