Key to our materials stewardship agenda is responsible waste management. Internal procedures require Company review and approval of all off-site disposal and recycling facilities, which must meet high standards of regulatory compliance, financial strength and environmental management practices. In 2011, we generated approximately 170 thousand metric tons of non-mineral waste. In addition, we generated 15.6 thousand cubic meters of used oil due to maintenance activities. Freeport-McMoRan is identifying opportunities for reducing the quantity and toxicity of hazardous waste generated at our facilities and to use the least toxic materials available for our processes. Approximately 26 percent of the hazardous waste generated at our sites was sent to licensed disposal facilities, with the remaining volumes either recycled or treated. While we cannot eliminate all hazardous waste generated at our sites, we strive for continued reductions in the quantities we send off-site for disposal.
