The Climax molybdenum mine is located 13 miles northeast of Leadville, Colorado. The Climax mine is a porphyry molybdenum deposit with molybdenite as the primary sulfide mineral. FCX has suspended construction activities associated with the restart of the Climax mine. While FCX remains positive on the long-term prospects for the molybdenum business and the future of the Climax mine, the construction activities will be suspended in a controlled and sequenced manner in order to maintain the integrity of the work completed to-date and to allow for a quick restart of the project pending improvement in market conditions. Reclamation and environmental projects continue and FCX will preserve the significant Climax reserves and resources for better market conditions. The Climax mine is located in a mountain region. The highest bench elevation is approximately 4,050 meters above sea level, and the ultimate pit bottom is expected to have an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters above sea level. The Climax operation encompasses approximately 14,339 acres of patented mining claims and other fee lands. For more information on molybdenum, click here: |
