AyodeleJune 18, 2025 - Nearly 300 interns have stepped into roles throughout Freeport’s North America sites as part of the company’s 2025 summer internship program, gaining real-world experience across a variety of roles and locations.

Interns are focusing on everything from engineering and business administration to metallurgy and geology. The program is designed to offer students and recent graduates hands-on learning, exposure to the mining industry and the chance to build skills that support long-term successes.

“Our internship program is designed to give college students and recent graduates hands-on experience in their field of interest, specifically within the mining industry,” said Alyssa Kohn, Supervisor-Talent Acquisition. “It also serves as a clear path to long-term opportunities at Freeport.”

In addition to various professional development programs, the summer schedule includes various activities hosted by the sites. One major event that takes place at the end of summer is the annual Summer Intern Conference, a two-day event where selected interns present their summer projects and hear directly from company leadership.

“I chose Freeport because there are so many opportunities to grow and connect with so many different people from all over the world,” said Emanuel Torres, a Reliability Engineering Intern at the company’s Safford, Arizona, site. Torres is a senior at Arizona State University, where he is completing his bachelor’s degree in mechanical systems engineering.

Torres said the internship has helped him expand both his technical knowledge and professional network.

“Safety is one of the core values of Freeport,” Olusesan said. “The company believes in safe production and ensures that everyone is safe at the end of the day.”
