January 15, 2021 - Freeport Cobalt recently became the first cobalt chemical producer in the world to achieve Conformant Downstream Facility status through the Responsible Minerals Initiative’s Downstream Assessment Program. RMI’s Downstream Assessment Program provides independent verification of ethical and responsible sourcing practices.

January 14, 2021 - Cerro Verde, in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, hosted an international group of scientists, biologists and researchers in a virtual event to evaluate the site’s guanaco conservation program and discuss research and recommendations moving forward to protect the population. 

Guanacos are listed as critically endangered by the Peruvian government. Peru, one of five South American countries with guanacos, has a population of about 3,500 guanacos. 

January 13, 2021 - In 1970, when Sierrita operations commissioned its concentrator, it was the largest in Arizona, produced 77,000 tons per day of copper and was the second largest producer of molybdenum in the country.

The operation was one of the first to use primary and mobile crushing.

January 7, 2021 - The pandemic may have forced the cancellation of the company’s annual Wildlife Habitat Council photo contest, but thanks to the numerous photos from nine years of past competitions, it won’t cancel the company’s appearance in the Wildlife Habitat Council’s 2021 Weekly Engagement Calendar.

December 31, 2020 - Indonesia's Department of Public Health has bestowed its highest recognition to PT Freeport Indonesia for its workplace protocols and efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the Mimika Regency of Papua, Indonesia, where Freeport-McMoRan’s Grasberg mining complex is located.

December 24, 2020 - Freeport-McMoRan is pleased to announce the Copper Mark has been awarded to its first three sites: the Cerro Verde mine in Peru, the El Abra mine in Chile and the Atlantic Copper smelter and refinery in Spain.

December 18, 2020 - Freeport-McMoRan’s Tyrone operations won Safe Operator of the Year award from the New Mexico Bureau of Mine Safety.
